Edinburgh Aikikai Relocation Update

The Royal Commonwealth Pool is closing for renovation at the end June 2009. All Edinburgh Aikikai classes are therefore to be relocated. Our final class at the RCP is to be Sunday 28 June.

We have managed to place almost all the existing classes with minor adjustments to times. This, however, means that for the time being, they will be split across two venues: Ainslie Park Leisure Centre (map) and Meadowbank Sports Centre (map). Classes at the new venues will begin from July 1.

The new schedule is as follows:

Ainslie Park Leisure Centre

  • Monday, 06:30 - 07:30
  • Monday, 20:00 - 21:00
  • Tuesday, 06:30 - 07:30
  • Wednesday, 06:30 - 07:30
  • Thursday, 06:30 - 07:30
  • Friday, 06:30 - 07:30
  • Saturday, 16:00 - 17:00
Meadowbank Sports Centre
  • Sunday 10:00–11:00 am
  • Sunday 11:00–12:00 am (children)
  • Friday 6:00–8:00 pm (6:00–7:00 geared towards beginners)
Note: At this point in time, we do not have Meadowbank booked for the first Friday of each month. There will be no classes on those days. This situation may change.

In terms of payment, the monthly training fee for all classes is to be increased to £45 to cover the rise in facilities rental expenses. Existing students need to amend their payment via their bank as soon as possible. This increase should be offset by the fact that there is no longer a pound to pay at reception as there was at the Royal Commonwealth Pool. Drop-in fees will be £5 per class
